Indian
Garden was named for a long series of indigenous
populations that frequented this oasis for millennia—from
post-Ice Age hunters, to the Havasupai Indians who
farmed the area until Grand Canyon was named a national
monument in 1908. Today, towering Cottonwood trees
and dense vegetation cling to the banks of Garden
Creek, which emerges from the canyon walls as a number
of perennial springs.
