Mather
Point was named after Stephen T. Mather, the first
director of the National Park Service and a strong
advocate for the protection of public lands. Due
to its proximity to the South Rim park entrance station,
Mather Point is typically the first view of the canyon
for most visitors. It rarely disappoints, especially
when rainbows like the one pictured here add a sense
of drama.
